I love my RV, we I it rather often and I have found it to be a wonderful way to travel. Nonetheless, I have one protest about it. I absolutely disliked the day/night shade that we had bought with our RV. It seemed that they were not able to regulate the correct amount of light shining through the windows. I was unclear what I could do to replace them so I did some research and found that a very good way to correct the situation was to get RV aluminum mini blinds. What attracted me toward this decision were a few very important characteristics of RV aluminum mini blinds. Firstly, these blinds are made from thin aluminum slats. They are either made from 6 or 8 gauge aluminum. My personal preference is the 8 gauge; it will handle the wear and tear better. Most companies that offer RV aluminum mini blinds give you several color choices; the color uses a baked-on enamel finish. You can also choose the width of the slats; they are sold in three widths from 1/2", 1" to 2". With the day/night shades I could never get the right amount of light. For example, the entire RV would light up at dawn and I wanted it to remain darker for longer. With the RV aluminum mini blinds it stays dark till I am ready to get up and open them. They come with child safety cords and they are scratch resistant. One other nice thing about them is they are also kink resistant. Installing them was very simple to do. Just make sure that you measure the window accurately. Each model offers specific measuring details so make sure you follow their instructions. I like the change that our RV aluminum mini blinds have made but there are 2 tiny downsides with them. First, they do make some noise when you are raising and lowering them. It is not a lot of noise, they just aren't completely quiet. They also do not give you any insulation for your RV so if that is crucial to you, you may have to add a curtain with them. When I was shopping for my mini blinds I found that most shops are within a few dollars of each other when it came to pricing stock RV aluminum mini blinds. If you need to have them custom made then you can expect to pay anywhere from 25%-50% more than stock aluminum mini blinds. For a standard sized blind 36" wide X 60" in height you can expect to pay between $34 to $47. The 1/2" blinds run more and average $54 for the same size. I found my 2" blinds for $60. I have found for the small investment I made to replace our window treatments we are much happier with our RV aluminum mini blinds. They give us the ability to fine tune the amount of light we want and they are good for privacy.
